Last week’s Laval Entrepreneur Mentor Program (EMP) meeting began with a delicious lunch from Mike’s Pizzeria provided by veteran mentee, Yadira Paramo. The meal consisted of a house salad, various types of delicious pasta and garlic bread. Thank you Yadira for choosing an amazing local restaurant.
Following the meal, Laval EMP mentees had the opportunity to participate in a dynamic presentation led by Dr. Diane Love, an internationally-accredited executive coach, trainer, professional speaker and award-winning author. She is an expert in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) with 25 years of experience passing on her knowledge to the business world. Love has traveled across the globe, working throughout North America, Europe and India. Love is also the founder and president of Successful Solutions, LLC (formerly known as Innovative Training Concepts, Inc.), which was founded in 1997. Her clients include Microsoft, Southwest Airlines, URS Corporation, The New York Times, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, State Farm Insurance, Hewlett-Packard and the United States Potato Board.
Love began the session with a brief history of MBTI and how its previous research still applies today. She explained the characteristics of introverts and extroverts and asked mentees to stand on opposing sides of the room, depending on what category they thought they fit best in. It was exciting to see how students determined if they were introverts or extroverts. Love pointed out how students acted when they arrived. It was clear to see the personality traits each group exhibited and how group members shared them.
Love did an amazing job explaining the importance of being able to “flex” to people of a different type. This is especially important in the business world because different people will come together in the workplace and need to perform together. If a group of individuals cannot get along, it becomes difficult to perform tasks efficiently and accomplish goals as a team.
Laval EMP students would like to thank Dr. Diane Love for her remarkable presentation and knowledge, but most importantly, her amazing energy. We hope to see her again soon.
